Goldmoxin powder for injection contains Amoxicillin sodium, a sterile powder used to treat infections caused by various bacteria. It is administered by injection after being dissolved in water for injections.
Amoxicillin is effective against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. It is notably more active against Enterococcus faecalis and Salmonella spp. than Ampicillin, but less active against Shigella spp.
Amoxicillin is used for a wide range of infections, including: * Actinomycosis * Biliary-tract infections * Bone and joint infections * Bronchitis * Endocarditis * Gastro-enteritis * Gonorrhea * Mouth infections * Otitis media * Pneumonia * Spleen disorders * Typhoid and paratyphoid fever * Urinary-tract infections * Lyme disease
Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. When combined with Amoxicillin, it widens the antibiotic's spectrum by preventing bacterial resistance mechanisms. This combination is useful in treating infections where Amoxicillin alone might be ineffective, such as those caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, or in cases of chancroid and melioidosis.
Amoxicillin is typically administered via intramuscular or slow intravenous injection. * **Adults:** 500mg every 8 hours. In severe cases, 1g every 6 hours, infused slowly over 30-60 minutes. * **Children under 10 years:** 50-100mg/kg body weight per day, divided into multiple doses.
The most common side effects are hypersensitivity reactions, particularly skin rashes. Anaphylaxis, which can be fatal, is a possibility.
A skin test should be performed before using Amoxicillin to assess for potential allergic reactions.
If a rash or other allergic reaction occurs, antihistamines or hormones should be administered. Continue treatment under close observation. If a serious rash develops, the treatment should be stopped immediately.
The incidence of diarrhea is lower with Amoxicillin compared to Ampicillin.
Side effects associated with the combination include: * Hepatitis * Cholestatic jaundice (attributed to clavulanic acid) * Erythema multiforme, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome * Toxic epidermal necrolysis * Exfoliative dermatitis
