Each pessary contains 500 mg Metronidazole BP, 100 mg Clotrimazole BP, 150 million Lactobacillus Spores, and other excipients.
Clotrimazole is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent that alters the permeability of fungal cell walls by interfering with cell wall lipids. It is effective against yeast, dermatophytes, and some Gram-positive bacteria like Staphylococci.
Metronidazole is active against several protozoa, including Trichomonas vaginalis. It is bactericidal and used to treat susceptible protozoal infections and anaerobic infections, including bacterial vaginosis.
Lactobacillus spores are used to recolonize the vaginal flora and maintain a healthy vaginal pH between 3.8 and 4.2. This helps to prevent the overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria.
Lactobacilli are the dominant bacteria in a healthy vagina. They produce lactic acid and other organic acids, keeping the vaginal pH acidic. This environment inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria and other pathogens.
Klovinal Pessary addresses different aspects of these infections: * **Metronidazole:** Treats trichomoniasis and bacterial vaginosis. * **Clotrimazole:** Treats vulvovaginal candidiasis. * **Lactobacillus:** Recolonizes the vaginal flora and restores a healthy vaginal pH, preventing recurrence of infections.
Some patients may experience local pruritis and burning sensation after vaginal administration.
Treatment should be discontinued immediately and appropriate therapy instituted.
Microbiological studies should be conducted to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other pathogens before initiating alternative antifungal therapy.
One pessary should be inserted into the vagina as deeply as possible once daily for 6 days, preferably at bedtime.
Treatment should not be carried out during menstruation.
Antibiotics with activity against lactobacilli should be avoided.
Klovinal Pessary should only be given to pregnant or lactating mothers if the benefits outweigh the possible risks to the fetus.
Keep in a dry place, below 30°C, protected from light. Keep out of reach and sight of children.
