Each Diclomol Caplet contains 50mg of Diclofenac Sodium and 500mg of Acetaminophen.
Diclofenac Sodium is a Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug (NSAID) with analgesic (pain relieving) and antipyretic (fever reducing) properties. It works by inhibiting the activity of the enzyme cyclo-oxygenase, which reduces pain.
Diclofenac Sodium is rapidly absorbed after oral administration. It penetrates synovial fluid, crosses the placenta, and is excreted in breast milk. It is highly protein-bound and has a terminal plasma half-life of about 1-2 hours. It is metabolized to several hydroxylated forms and excreted in the urine and bile as glucuronide and sulfate conjugates.
Caution is needed in patients restricting sodium intake. Diclofenac Sodium may trigger attacks in patients with hepatic porphyria. Avoid driving or operating machinery if dizziness or CNS disturbances occur. Stop Diclofenac if liver function tests show persistent or worsening abnormalities, liver disease develops, or other symptoms like eosinophilia or rash occur. Severe cutaneous reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis) have been reported. Closely monitor patients for hypersensitivity reactions, and discontinue use in elderly patients and those with renal or hepatic impairment. Exercise caution in elderly patients and those with renal or hepatic impairment. Monitor renal function, hepatic function, and blood counts in long-term NSAID users. Patients with a history of gastrointestinal ulceration, haematemesis, or melaena require careful observation.
Diclomol is indicated for fast relief from pain and inflammation in conditions such as: Headache Neuralgia Toothache Dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps) Muscular pain Rheumatoid arthritis Osteoarthritis Cancer pain Ankylosing spondylitis Acute gout Following some surgical procedures
Possible adverse reactions/side effects include: Nausea Headache Diarrhea Dizziness Heartburn Blurred vision Epigastric pain Anorexia Dyspepsia Flatulence Skin rash Abdominal cramps Vertigo
For adults and children above 15 years, the recommended dosage is one caplet twice daily, preferably after meals.
Clinical features of overdose include gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting), central nervous system effects (lethargy, drowsiness), and some renal effects. Treatment for overdose involves immediate gastric lavage and administration of activated charcoal to prevent absorption of the drug. Further treatment is supportive and symptomatic.
Diclomol Caplets should be stored at a temperature below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
