Each tablet contains 500mg of Paracetamol and 50mg of Diclofenac Potassium, along with excipients and colouring agents.
Paracetamol is a widely used analgesic (pain reliever) and antipyretic (fever reducer) for mild to moderate pain. Diclofenac Potassium is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to reduce inflammation and pain in various conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, low back pain, and acute musculoskeletal disorders.
The exact mechanism of Paracetamol's analgesic action isn't fully understood, but it is believed to involve inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system and potentially at a peripheral level. Diclofenac's primary mechanism is thought to be the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis through cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibition, leading to its anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and analgesic effects.
Paracetamol: Rare side effects include hypersensitivity reactions like skin rash and blood dyscrasias. Diclofenac: Potential adverse effects include gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration, or perforation, especially in those with a history of ulcers. Other possible side effects include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, and renal or hepatic dysfunction.
Paracetamol: Contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic impairment. Diclofenac: Contraindicated in aspirin allergy, severe bowel inflammation, stomach ulceration, the last trimester of pregnancy, and severe hepatic impairment.
Potential interactions include: Cholestyramine, Metoclopramide, Domperidone Warfarin, Cimetidine, Chloramphenicol Lithium, Cardiac glycosides, Anticoagulants, Antidiabetic agents Ciclosporin, Methotrexate, Quinolone antibiotics Diuretics, Zidovudine
Paracetamol: Caution is advised in patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment. Diclofenac: Long-term use requires monitoring for liver enzyme elevation and blood counts. Patients with hypertension or congestive heart failure should be carefully monitored due to potential fluid retention and edema.
The typical dosage is one tablet three or four times daily, or as directed by a physician.
Store in a cool (below 30°C), dry, and dark place.
Paracetamol: Immediate medical attention is crucial, and treatment should follow established guidelines, including activated charcoal and N-acetylcysteine. Diclofenac: Symptomatic treatment is required, and hospital care may be necessary in severe cases.
Paracetamol: No major adverse effects have been reported at recommended dosages, but consultation with a physician is essential. It is found in breast milk, but in clinically insignificant amounts. Diclofenac: Avoid use in the first two trimesters of pregnancy and during labor. It is contraindicated in the last trimester. While Diclofenac is present in breast milk in very low concentrations, breastfeeding is not recommended during use.
