What is the composition of each Maldox tablet?

Each tablet contains 500mg of Sulfadoxine and 25mg of Pyrimethamine.

How should Maldox be stored?

Below 30°C and protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.

Three tablets at intervals of no less than 4 weeks, starting after the first trimester.

What are the contraindications for using Maldox?

Hypersensitivity to Sulfonamides, first trimester and last four weeks of third trimester of pregnancy, concomitant use with Co-trimoxazole or other Sulphonamide-containing drugs.

What are the potential side effects of Maldox?

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rashes, blood dyscrasias (rarely), fatigue, headache, stomatitis, thrombocytopenia, and leucopenia (rare).

Synergistic effect of Sulfadoxine and Pyrimethamine blocking enzymes crucial for folinic acid biosynthesis in malaria parasites.

What precautions should be taken when administering Maldox?

Stop treatment immediately if cutaneous erythema occurs. Maintain adequate diuresis. Consider lower/less frequent doses for patients with renal disorders. Caution with patients predisposed to folic acid deficiency.

Is Maldox compatible with other medications?

Yes, with other antimalarials (artesunate, amodiaquine, quinine), some antibiotics, and antidiabetic agents.

Why might Primaquine be considered after Maldox treatment for Plasmodium vivax infections?

To eradicate dormant exo-erythrocytic forms of P. vivax and prevent relapse, as Maldox doesn't affect these forms.

What are the indications for Maldox use?

IPT of malaria in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy and prophylaxis against malaria infection.
