What is Montiget and what is it used for?
Montiget (Montelukast Sodium) is a selective leukotriene receptor antagonist that inhibits the effects of leukotrienes. It's used for prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma and allergies.
How does Montiget work?
Montiget blocks the action of leukotrienes by binding to their receptors, reducing inflammation and symptoms associated with asthma and allergies.
How often should I take Montiget?
Usually once daily, in the evening for asthma and at a time individualized to suit patient needs for seasonal allergic rhinitis.
What are the different dosage forms of Montiget available?
Film-coated tablets (10mg), chewable tablets (4mg and 5mg), and pediatric granules (4mg).
What is the dosage for adults and adolescents 15 years and older?
One 10mg tablet daily.
What is the dosage for children 6 to 14 years of age?
One 5mg chewable tablet daily.
What is the dosage for children 2 to 5 years of age?
One 4mg chewable tablet or one sachet of pediatric granules 4mg daily.
What is the dosage for children 6 months to 2 years of age?
One sachet of pediatric granules 4mg daily to be taken in the evening.
Can I take Montiget with food?
Can be taken with or without food.
How should I administer Montiget pediatric granules?
Directly in the mouth or mixed with soft food. The full dose must be administered within 15 minutes after opening the sachet.
Are there any side effects associated with Montiget?
Common: diarrhea, fever, gastrointestinal discomfort, headache, nausea, skin reactions, upper respiratory tract infection, vomiting. Uncommon: akathisia, anxiety, arthralgia, asthenia, abnormal behavior, depression, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, haemorrhage, irritability, malaise, muscle complaints, oedema, seizure, abnormal sensation, sleep disorders. Rare/very rare: angioedema, impaired concentration, disorientation, eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis, erythema nodosum, hallucination, hepatic disorders, memory loss, palpitations, pulmonary eosinophilia, suicidal tendencies, tremor.
What are some precautions I should be aware of when taking Montiget?
Do not abruptly stop taking corticosteroids, do not use as the sole treatment for exercise-induced asthma, do not use for acute asthma attacks, do not use if you have a history of hypersensitivity, talk to your doctor about interactions with other medications, monitor children closely for interactions, use caution with bronchodilator therapy, if you have hepatic insufficiency, your doctor may need to adjust your dosage.
Is Montiget safe to take during pregnancy?
Has not been studied in pregnant women. Should only be used if the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
Is Montiget safe to take while breastfeeding?
It's not known if montelukast sodium is excreted in human milk. Exercise caution.
What should I do if I miss a dose of Montiget?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, but do not take two doses at the same time.
How should I store Montiget?
